Artist as Entrepreneur: In Conversation with Hattie Gregory & Tom Hobden

Producer extraordinaire, Hattie Gregory, and Artist-Producer, Tom Hobson, will talk through thoughts and questions of being the artist, being the entrepreneur and finding the fine line between these places.  In the ever growing role of the artist Hattie & Tom will ask if it’s at all possible and could it even be fun?

Hattie is a creative producer based in the South West, who works with extraordinary independent artists, companies, and theatre organisations across the UK.

Hattie is Producer of award-winning dance theatre company Lost Dog and live performance producing organisation MAYK. As Projects Producer Hattie is currently collaborating with Terrestrial on their Remote Community Artists Residency programme and the development of Raucous’ newest immersive storytelling project.

As a freelance producer she has supported the work of arts organisations COMMON, Ad Infinitum, artists Bertrand Lesca and Nasi Voutsas, Racheal Spence and Lisa Hammond of Bunny and dance producer Georgina Harper.

Prior to going independent, Hattie was Producer at Fuel where she supported the development, creation and tour of imaginative, multi-disciplinary theatre from 2014 – 2018. She supported the work of artists and companies including Encounter, Tom Stuart, Inua Ellams, Uninvited Guests, Andy Smith and Nick Makoha.

Originally from Sudbury in Suffolk, Tom trained at De Montfort University and continued his dance education at London Contemporary Dance School with a MA in choreography and a PGCE at Suffolk University. He is Artistic Director of UNIT (www.weareunit.co.uk)  dance educationalist, mentor and national leader in community dance practice. Tom is most known for his unending energy, enthusiasm and ability to work and connect with anyone.

Tom has had the pleasure in leading and supporting work for organisations including: New Adventures, DanceEast, Royal Ballet School, Ballet Boyz, Stopgap Dance, Studio Wayne Mc Gregor, Gecko Theatre, ISTD, Trinity Laban, Suffolk Art link, Dance United, Suffolk University. Tom has also collaborated with artists including: Alexander Whitley, Matthias Spurling, Tom Dale, New Art Club, Darren Ellis, Etta Murfitt, amongst others. Tom was associate artist at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and DanceEast from 2015 – 2017, a Clore graduate in June 2017,  Questlab artist for Studio Wayne McGregor 2018/19 and Guildhall Creative entrepreneur in 2019/20.

Most significantly in his career Tom has led five large scale (250+ participants) intergenerational performances, curated New Adventures ‘Overture’ Programme (A national CPD programme for young leading community artists) and is a lead artist for The Royal Opera House.
